Results from Sight Without Glasses workshops

Dear Chung Meng,
I am glad that you participated in Harry's workshop. I attended his workshop in July 2002, and I have personally been very satisfied with the progress of my habit and vision improvement. At the close of that July 2002 seminar, I gave myself one year to develop the capability to go about without my glasses; but Harry said I could do it in 6 months!
I used to wear my glasses without fail even though they are lightly powered at 150 degree. The biggest obstacle, then, was to start to leave my glasses behind. But over several months of developing that habit of going about w/o the glasses and religiously doing the eye exercises, my vision improved after 4 months or so. By December (the 6 months Harry mentioned), I was able to do my daily chores w/o my glasses. In my recent March 2003 trip overseas, I carried only one pair of glasses (whereas before attending Harry's session, I used to carry two pairs - one pair for back-up). Since developing the capability to live without glasses on my body, I started to leave my glasses in my car where I use them mainly for for night driving in unfamiliar environment, or in demanding situations where I need to discern distant small prints. Nonetheless, wearing that same pair of 150 degree glasses over prolonged periods (say, 20 minutes) gave me headaches; that's how I know the glasses had become too powerful for my needs - a sign of improved natural vision.
Now, going about w/o glasses is so convenient, even though I have not gotten back to 6/6 vision. I probably have only 6/7 vision. Given my age of 53, that is good enough for the time being.
I look forward to the support group meeting with you. Please let me know the details, and if it does not conflict with my routine commitments, I would come.

Thank you. Leo Tin Boon - Senior Manager

Dear Tin Boon,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Since Singapore is already the worst myopic country in the world, anything we can do to arrest the deterioration is really the least we can do. If we have an eye exercise enthusiasts group whose members can show visible results as we go along, the encouraging effect on other members will be powerful.( This is purely voluntary, for people who love their eyes. No commercialism. Any business must be done elsewhere. We make no medical claims , just relaxing and exercising our eyes. People with eye disease or organically damaged eyes should not join as it is a medical problem )
I propose we meet at Mandarin Gardens * Thai pan restaurant (inside the Mandarin Gardens condo premises) on the first Sunday morning of June (i.e., 1 June, Sunday) , July , Aug and so on. Even the Thai Pan restaurant owner, a young 27 entrepreneur (wearing contact lens but was surprised to hear of Bates Method yesterday) , is keen to explore with us. The garden environment and coffee lounge will be a good setting for our purpose. Those who are coming on 1 Jun 2003 at 9.00am , can e-mail me so that we so we know each other.
This eye exercise enthusiast group will gather momentum once people can observe that they personally enjoy learning improving techniques , better eye relaxation and sight improvements for some group members.

Natural Eye Vision Exercises
My husband introduced me to natural eye vision exercises after he had attended a natural eye vision seminar in May 2003. He mentioned that the recommended eye exercises if done properly will improve one’s eyesight. I had my doubts initially. Despite my skepticism, I picked up several books to learn more about the subject. After reading them, I began to see some rationale behind these exercises. For the same reason if one frequently exercises his body muscles, they will stay taut and fit and hence maintain one’s body shape. I thought it would be worth a try. I did the eye exercises diligently with conviction that my short-sightedness will improve.
I started the exercises in late May 2003. Initially I allocated about 15 minutes every morning for the exercises. It did not work out as I felt that it was more of a chore and rigor for me. Most days I ended up not doing the exercises. I then decided to change my approach. I incorporated the exercises as part of my daily routine to make it effortless. I would pump and blink my eyes or watch the birds fly whenever I look out of the window with my son. I would yawn out loud followed by a few blinks when I am at home. While listening to the news at night, I would rotate my eyes both ways and do the ‘eye clock’ exercise followed by eye acupressure. I would brisk walk without wearing my glasses. During weekends, I spend more leisure hours at parks and beaches. I make it a point to move around the house without my glasses whenever possible. The trick is to incorporate good eye behavior into my daily routine activities so that it is done without the extra effort to allocate specific time and venue to perform them.
After six months of relaxed, smooth, natural and routine effort, I could ‘see’ my eye-sight improving. The word prints in the newspapers which used to be alright with my old pair of spectacles now looked overwhelming. Before, I was able to read a book continuously for hours without feeling any strain, gradually I could feel the strain in my eyes after reading for half an hour and I just could not get on with my reading. The latter prompted me to consult the optician about my eyesight on 2 December 2003. Before the eye test, I had informed the optician that I am undergoing some natural eye vision exercises and that I am experiencing some strain in my eyes while reading. He went ahead to check my eyesight and I could read every alphabet on the chart very clearly. The optician then informed me that he had tested me with a reduced lens power - R: -5.00 L: -5.50. Prior to this my short-sightedness was R: -6.00 L: -6.50 I was overjoyed to learn that my short-sightedness has improved. I now look forward to further improvement in my short-sightedness.
