Dr Siang- Yang
Tan, Ph.D is Professor of Psychology at Fuller Theological
Seminary in Pasadena, California, and senior pastor
of First Evangelical Church in Glendale and Arcadia,
California. He is a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D
in Clinical Psychology from McGill University and a
Fellow of American Psychological Association. He has
published articles on lay counseling and lay counselor
training, intrapersonal integration and spirituality,
religious psychotherapy, epilepsy, pain and cross-cultural
counseling as well as eight books. I am glad to write
this letter of reference for Mr. Harry Quek, who I have
known for over 30 years. When I was a teenager in Singapore,
he was instrumental in mentoring me and helping me to
develop my leadership abilities and youth ministry skills. |
| Harry
focused on character and leadership development for
those of us fortunate enough to be mentored by him.
His life has always been a great model of service to
others with deep and wise caring and compassion. He
is a wise, mature, reliable, and loyal man who will
excel in whatever he undertakes. I have continued to
keep in close touch with Harry over the years, and through
my frequent trips back to Singapore to speak and conduct
training seminars. Harry recently taught himself to
successfully overcome his shortsightedness, after many
years of having to use glasses. He therefore no longer
needs to use glasses or contact lenses in order to see
and read well. As a result of his experience in this
area, he has come up with a special program to help
people with poor eyesight to improve their sight, possibly
without using glasses or contact lenses. I believe that
he will be of great help to many, and I recommend him
most highly to you, without reservation. |

Bessie Low share:
I know Harry Quek since the early 1970s. I recalled
that though he was young then, one thing that was so noticeable
about him was his spectacles. They were huge and had concentric
rings in them. This must have meant that he had quite a bad
myopia. The spectacles looked quite a sight really as they
do make him looked old. It does give the image
that he cant do without them.
I then lost touch with Harry for quite a while until the mid
1990s Though I did recognize Harry, I somehow felt that
he looked much better and younger, although he should have
aged since the 70s. I then realized that he was not
wearing his glasses anymore. Gone were the humongous spectacles
that sat on his nose. I was really impressed and I thought
that he was wearing lenses, or had undergone some surgery
to correct his eyesight. It was then that I learned from Harry
that his eyesight went through a dramatic change without anything
unnatural or surgical. He certainly looks much better now
than the past, and that is despite his age!
